The 9th Cross-Strait Workshop on Culture and History opened on Aug 5 at the Zhuhai campus of Sun Yat-Sen University.

The workshop was sponsored by CSCLF, the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange, City University of Hong Kong, and Taiwan Academia Sinica. It was hosted by Sun Yat-Sen University.
Forty doctoral candidates from the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia went on a 10-day trip to Macao, Zhuhai, Guangzhou, Shantou and other cities for research purposes. Their research project was entitled "Fujian and Guangdong provinces - -Ocean".

Hang Yuanxiang, executive vice-president of CSCLF, delivers a speech at the opening ceremony of the 9th Cross-straits Workshop on Culture and History. In his speech, he briefed attendees on the significance of the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, which was announced by the Chinese government on Feb 18
Hang also briefed attendees on the measures being taken to build the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, as well as future plans for the area. He encouraged participants of the workshop to honor the spirit of Sun Yat-sen and his wife Soong Ching Ling.

The opening ceremony was chaired by Li Xiaoti, professor at the department of Chinese language and history at City University of Hong Kong. Zhu Yunhan, executive president of the Taiwan Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange, Wang Mingke, director of the department of history and philology at Taiwan Academia Sinica, and Wu Tao, director of the history department (Zhuhai) at Sun Yat-Sen University, addressed the opening ceremony.
Li Xiaofeng, deputy director of the Department in charge of Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Affairs at the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF), also attended the event.
