The 10th National High School Student Leadership Convention took place at the Qingdao No 39 High School in Shandong province on July 27.
Hang Yuanxiang, executive vice-chairman of the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF), addressed the opening ceremony.
Other senior dignitaries attending the opening ceremony included Zhu Yongxin, vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the China Association for Promoting Democracy, Li Ping, Party secretary of the Commercial Press, and Wang Quan, deputy director of the Qingdao Education Bureau.

The convention was directed by the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, sponsored by the China Soong Ching Ling Science and Culture Center for Young People, the Institute for New Education, and the Commercial Press, and organized by the Qingdao No 39 High School, the Beijing Public Advancement Foundation, and futurename.cn.
The Specialized Committee for High School Education of the Chinese Education Society, the Qingdao Education Bureau, and the Commercial Press also helped organize the event.

During his speech, Hang stressed that the nation's future is dependent on the qualities of the younger generation. He urged participants of the convention to address social problems.
Hang also said that CSCLF hoped to continue working with all sides to further develop teacher and student training systems and promote educational reform.

Following the opening ceremony, the CSCLF delegation met with a number of educators attending the convention to discuss educational reform.

Participants of the convention will share projects themed around aiding vulnerable groups, environmental preservation, career planning, and social services.
The convention was attended by 982 teachers and students, as well as 159 volunteers from 115 schools in 22 provinces.
Hundreds of representatives from universities, enterprises, and media organizations served as judges at the convention.
Song Jian, deputy director of the Fund Department of the CSCLF, and Su Hongtao, deputy director of the China Soong Ching Ling Science and Culture Center for Young People, also participated in the opening ceremony for the convention.
