The China Soong Ching Ling Science and Culture Center for Young People has launched a program with the Beijing Education Committee to explore more efficient ways to improve education for children.
On July 17, the center organized a public activity to demonstrate its newly-developed education methods and after-school courses for children.
A delegation led by Wang Jiarui, chairman of the China Soong Cing Ling Foundation (CSCLF), took part in the activity.

The CSCLF delegation first observed a class on Peking Opera top to see how the class managed to arouse interest among children in the classic art form.

Afterwards, a meeting was held to discuss the development of new courses and teacher training.

Guo Xinbao, director of the China Soong Ching Ling Science and Culture Center for Young People, said that the center and the Beijing Education Committee teamed up to explore how to improve after-school classes for children.
The two parties have developed six types of extracurricular courses for children with the help of local education departments, schools, and institutes. The courses focus on traditional Chinese culture, cross-disciplinary innovation, art education, performance arts, volunteer service, and international exchanges.
A total of 296 extracurricular courses have been developed for children.
Liu Yuhui, director of the Beijing Education Committee, said that the two sides signed a cooperation agreement in 2018 and had since been dedicated to developing new after-school curricula for teenagers.
She said that more efforts should be made to improve extracurricular courses and train teachers. She hoped that the China Soong Ching Ling Science and Culture Center for Young People would serve as an example with its extraordinary education model in Beijing.

Several other delegates also voiced their opinions at the meeting. CSCLF Chairman Wang Jiarui commented on the achievements of the education reforms carried out by the China Soong Ching Ling Science and Culture Center for Young People and the Beijing Education Committee.

The meeting was attended by Hang Yuanxiang, executive vice-president of the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, Jing Dunquan, vice-chairman of CSCLF, representatives from the Beijing Education Committee, and other representatives from Beijing educational institutes.
