CSCLF vice-chairman visits Yunnan for research purpose

  CSCLF Vice-Chairman Jing Dunquan visited Dehong Dai and Jingpo autonomous prefecture in Yunnan province from June 17 to 20 to research into the current operations of the two CSCLF welfare programs on improving people's livelihood of both Chinese and Burmese people, and on the welfare of women and children living in the border areas.

  On June 18, the CSCLF delegation visited the construction project of the Dehong Maternity and Child Center, which was co-founded by CSCLF and the Mcao Foundation.

  The project was set to be completed by the end of the year. Once the health center was founded, it will offer medical services for both Chinese and Burmese people.

  The delegation also visited a motorbike factory and talked with the workers from Myanmar, learning about their current living situations. Then the CSCLF representatives visited a primary school, which currently provides educational service for 140 students, around 60 of whom were from Myanmar.

  In this school, students are taught in Chinese, Dai and Burmese languages.

  On the afternoon of June 19, the CSCLF delegation held a meeting with officials from the government of Dehong Dai and Jingpo autonomous prefecture. Jing positively commented on the changes that had taken place in Dehong.

  He expressed hope that more people would get involved in the welfare programs for both Chinese and Burmese people.

  At the meeting, officials from the local government delivered a report on the progress of constructing the Dehong Maternity and Child Care Center.

  During their visit to Dehong, the CSCLF delegation also visited other places such as a memorial hall and the China-Myanmar Friendship Memorial Hall. They learned about the current conditions of a construction project of a railway linking Muse and Mandalay in Myanmar.

  Song Jian, deputy director of the Fund Department of CSCLF, Su Hongtao, deputy director of the China Soong Ching Ling Science and Culture Center for Young People, and other officials from the local government in Dehong attended the meeting.
