The launching ceremony of CSCLF Respiratory Diseases Clinical Research Fund was held in the Former Residence of Soong Ching-ling in Beijing on October 21, 2015. The fund was launched by China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF), Wu Lien-Teh International Medical Center, High-end Project Training Center at the School of Economics, Peking University, and Shanghai Kai Bao Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. Those attending the event included Jing Dunquan, vice chairman of CSCLF, Tang Jiuhong, director of CSCLF Fund Department, Wang Chen, academician of China Academy of Engineering and head of China-Japan Friendship Hospital, Chao Enxiang, national medical master and chief expert at the Department of Internal Medicine of Traditional Chinese Medicine of China-Japan Friendship Hospital, Wang Weiguo, former director of the Scientific Research Institution of National Health and Family Planning Commission, and Liu Yishan, chairman of Shanghai Kai Bao Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. The event was hosted by Li Huiling from Beijing TV Station.

The fund has got great support from National Health and Family Planning Commission, Ministry of Science and Technology, and State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In order to ensure the fund can guide and support clinical research, and regulate its management and operation, the fund established an administrative committee of senior professional staff from various related fields. Jing Dunquan, vice chairman of CSCLF, presented the letter of appointment to members of the administrative committee at the launching ceremony.
Jing pointed out improving the prevention and treatment level of respiratory diseases in China is closely related to the happiness of thousands of families, as well as the future of the nation. It requires the participation of all social circles. The establishment of the fund corresponded to the current situation and needs of the development of Chinese society, and played a demonstration role in motivating social resources to support medical research. The fund aimed to strengthen the clinical research system and capability of preventing and treating respiratory diseases in China, improve the living quality of patients, and lower the mortality rate and burden of respiratory diseases, through supporting the clinical research work in the area of preventing and treating respiratory diseases.
The fund was established under the proposal of Professor Wang Chen, academician of China Academy of Engineering and head of China-Japan Friendship Hospital. Professor Wang pointed out respiratory diseases was common diseases and frequently occurring disease, which brought serious harm and huge burden. Now China's ability in the prevention and treatment of respiratory diseases is difficult to cope with the increasingly serious situation. We need to start a series of large-scaled and high-leveled clinical research to provide scientific proof and treating regulations in preventing and treating such diseases. The establishment of the fund showed the society pays great attention the prevention and treatment of respiratory diseases, which will provide strong assistance in establishing the clinical research system and capability of respiratory diseases in China.

Tang Jiuhong, director of CSCLF Fund Department, accepted the donation from Wu Lien-Teh International Medical Center, High-end Project Training Center at the School of Economics, Peking University, and Shanghai Kai Bao Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. on behalf of the foundation, as well as presented donors with honorary certificates at the launching ceremony.
Donor representative Zhang Zheng, secretary of the party committee of the School of Economics, Peking University, delivered a speech at the ceremony. He hoped that the event could attract social attention, ease and postpone the occurrence of respiratory diseases, and attract more people to take part in the prevention and treatment of respiratory diseases, which would bring true benefits to citizens at last.
