Belt and Road International Youth Summer School opens

  The 2019 Belt and Road International Youth Summer School, sponsored by the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF) and the Youth Time International Movement, opened in Chengdu, Sichuan province, on July 8.

  The summer school's slogan was "Bridge capital and technology" and it consisted of a wide array of activities, such as keynote speeches, forums, workshops, and other activities. More than 80 young entrepreneurs, college students, and experts participated in the event.

  The summer school was hosted by the training center of the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation with support from the Sichuan Foreign Affairs Office, Vstartup, and the advisory institute of the Youth Time International Movement.

  Hang Yuanxiang, executive vice-chairman of the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF), said during a speech that the 2nd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation took place in Beijing in April.

  He went on to say that the Belt and Road Initiative has become one of the world's most important platforms for cooperation.

  The summer school was meant to provide a platform for teenagers from China and other countries to deepen people-to-people exchanges and stimulate innovation and entrepreneurship, Hang added.

  Since its founding in 1982, CSCLF has been working to promote exchanges between teenagers from China and foreign countries.

  Moving forward, the organization plans to remain committed to promoting the welfare of teenagers and forging friendly international relations.

  Zhao Zhenxian, vice-chairman of the Sichuan People's Political Consultative Conference, delivered a speech and welcomed all attendees to Sichuan. He briefed the audience on the province's social development.

  He praised the summer school and said that it would help Sichuan province get more involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.

  Julia Kinash, president of the Youth Time Movement, delivered a speech praising the Belt and Road Initiative.

  She said that the initiative connects Asia, Africa, Europe, and America through infrastructure projects and trade contacts, and that it helps consolidate international relations and global cooperation, promoting global economic growth and opening new markets.

  As the initiative develops, it will create more opportunities for young entrepreneurs and exert positive influence on the younger generation, she said.

  After the opening ceremony, Vladimir Yakunin, founding president of WPF Dialogue of Civilizations and head of the Department for State Governance at Moscow State University, delivered a speech on the challenges and opportunities facing the Belt and Road Initiative.

  Li Jinfeng, deputy director of the Research Institute for the Belt and Road, delivered a keynote speech on the achievements, problems, and future outlook of the Belt and Road Initiative.

  The summer school activity will end on July 12. Scholars participating in the activity will have an opportunity to visit the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China and the Dujiangyan Irrigation System.

  Background

  The Youth Time Movement was founded in Prague in December 2010 and was previously known as the Youth Forum of the Rhode Island Forum. The movement is committed to facilitating exchanges between people of different ages and cultures.

  Since 2011, the summer school activity has been hosted in Russia, Czech Republic, Croatia, Italy, and Germany. Over the past three years, CSCLF has hosted three summer school activities in Beijing and Shanghai in partnership with the Youth Time International Movement.
