The 17th China Forum on Life Education for Youth hosted by China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF) was held in Beijing Dec. 3, 2021.
Themed "Life education and healthy personality," the forum was an opportunity to implement the newly revised Law on the Protection of Minors and the National Program for Children' s Development in China (2021-2030).
More than 200 representatives of government departments covering education, civil affairs and research institutions from 14 provinces and municipalities attended the forum in person or via video link.
Jing Dunquan, member of the Party leadership group and vice chairman of CSCLF, Sun Xianghong, Party secretary of the Institute of Psychology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and Dou Ruigang, executive secretary-general of Tencent Foundation attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Zhao Ximing, deputy director of the Training and Exchange Center of CSCLF chaired the forum.
"Personality shapes people's spiritual world. A healthy personality can make lives more fulfilling and happier," said Jing. He said that China has issued the Opinions of the State Council on Strengthening Care and Protection of Rural Left-Behind Children, revised the Law on the Protection of Minors and published the National Program for Children's Development in China (2021-2030), all of which emphasize strengthening children's education around lifestyle, mental health and positive personality health.
Sun said that young people are the future of the country. Improving their chance to develop in a healthy way is conducive to promoting family and social harmony. With the theme of " Life education and healthy personality," this year's forum is of great practical significance for shaping adolescents' self-esteem, confidence and positive social mentality.
Dou said that "caring for the growth of young people" is one of the core purposes of the Tencent Foundation. He said the foundation hopes to promote life and health education for young people as well as minor protection relying on the forum.
After the opening ceremony, Gu Mingyuan, a senior education professor at Beijing Normal University, and three other professors gave keynote presentations around topics such as life education targeting young people, and the development of a mental health service system for rural children.
On the same day, there was also a seminar on pilot work carried out during 2021 concerning the development of rural left-behind children's mental health services. Representatives from the first batch of 10 pilot schools attending the program shared their experience and explored useful methods.
The forum was organized by the Training and Exchange Center of CSCLF, and co-organized by the Institute of Psychology of the CAS, the New Life Education Institute of the Soochow University and Tencent Foundation.
