On 7 August, 2020 CSCLF Toyota Scholarship student innovation project national final was held in China Soong Ching Ling Science & Culture Center for Young People. This year's event was held online due to the pandemic. Representatives of CSCLF and Toyota Motor (China) Investment Co., Ltd., 5 expert judges and 88 teachers and students from 26 Chinese universities attended the event.
In spite of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year's event was still successfully organized. After 5 months of preparation and several rounds of assessment and selection, 26 student innovation projects made it into the final. These projects touch upon many social hotpots, including VR, garbage sorting, campus violence, masks and so on.
The project submitted by Zhengzhou University combines VR technology with safety education to improve students' ability to resist risks. The project presented by Qinghai Nationalities University advocates the recycling of parcel packages. The projects related to masks, a hotspot issue during the pandemic, are also very impressive.
Different from the previous years, this year, students made full use of online resources and social networking platforms to promote their own projects. During the national final, students shared their practices and progress during the past few months through online demonstration. The judges were impressed by their passion, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
During the national final, students present their projects online to the judges, who give professional comments and suggestions for further improvement and select the best team. Through participating in the competition, students not only improved their ability in research and practice and skills in project presentation, but also learned the importance of teamwork.
The results of the competition will be released on CSCLF website.
