During July 13 to 18, CSCLF sent a team to compete in the 54th International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad (online) for the first time at the invitation of Melnichenko Foundation, and won 3 silver medals and 1 bronze medal.
The competition was not only a test for knowledge of chemistry, but also a challenge to the contestants' will and strength. Faced with all kinds of unexpected situations, the Chinese team stayed calm, and showed a good image of Chinese high school students. They were all proud of participating in the game, and felt more interested in chemistry after that.
Guo Yuchen, a member of the Chinese team, told us, "We are inspired by the Russian side in some aspects. The competition is a good chance for people who're interested in chemistry to gather together and learn from each other." Fu Ruotong, another member of the Chinese team, said, "The competition also gives us an opportunity to review our knowledge of chemistry. We now know what our weakness is, and we'll continue to improve ourselves." The whole team enjoyed the competition very much.
Guo Xinyan, the teacher who led the Chinese team from the High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China, told us, "We're really grateful to CSCLF for giving us this opportunity. The International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad has a long history, and it is holding the 54th game this year. It is a competition that is both professional and interesting."
The Department of Chemistry in Lomonosov Moscow State University and Melnichenko Foundation sent their congratulations to the Chinese team, "The International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad is one of the two most important chemistry competitions in the world. The Chinese team has done an excellent job."
The Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad is a world-renowned international competition, and according to experts of the UNESCO, it is more difficult than the International Chemistry Olympiad. Due to the spreading COVID-19 epidemic, the competition adopted the online form, canceled the experiments and had two rounds of theoretical tests. To ensure the transparency and fairness of the competition, invigilators supervised the whole process through a professional software online.
