Xiamen hosts 11th Cross-Strait Philanthropy Forum

  The 11th Cross-Strait Philanthropy Forum began on June 15 in Xiamen, Fujian province. Wang Jiarui, chairman of the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF), addressed the forum.

  The forum included three workshops themed around different aspects of charity cooperation between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan.

  It was co-sponsored by the CSCLF, the Central Committee for Social Development and Services of the Chinese Zhigong Party, the China Internet Development Foundation, the Taiwan Association for the Promotion of Chinese Culture, the Taiwan Teacher Chang Foundation, the Taiwan Foundation for Distinguished Young People, the Taiwan Soka Association, the Taiwan Association for Chinese Cultural Exchanges, and the Taiwan Federation of Volunteers.

  Wang Jiarui, chairman of the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF), delivered a speech at the opening ceremony in which he expressed hope that people in the charity sector would contribute to cross-Strait exchanges in philanthropy.

  The opening ceremony was chaired by Hang Yuanxiang, executive vice-chairman of CSCLF. Xue Weimin, vice-chairman of the Fujian Provincial People's Political Consultative Conference, Yan Xiaopei, vice-chairwoman of the Central Committee of the Chinese Zhigong Party, and Zhao Yi, president of the Taiwan Association for the Promotion of Chinese Culture, delivered speeches.

  Sun Yafu, vice-president of the Cross-Strait Relations Association, Ma Li, president of the China Internet Development Foundation, Li Chuan, former vice-chairman of the Fujian Provincial People's Political Consultative Conference, Guo Changjiang, president of the Chinese Red Cross Foundation, and Yu Qun, vice-chairman of the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, attended the event.

  B-Soft Technology Co, in partnership with two other companies, donated a health information system worth more than 30 million yuan ($4.36 million) during last year's Cross-Strait Philanthropy Forum to help support poverty-alleviation efforts in Pengyang county, Ningxia Hui autonomous region. This year, the company donated a 12.8 million yuan in medical information systems to Yu county, Shanxi province, to improve local health services.

  During the forum, Shanghai Zanhe Education Technology Co donated 5 million yuan, and another 5 million yuan in supplies, to the Baby and Child Fund established by CSCLF, and have stated that they will do so for the next three years.

  This year's forum brought together representatives from 43 charity institutes and firms. Chen Yueguang, vice-chairman of the China Charity Federation, Ge Yongguang, chairman of the Taiwan Teacher Chang Foundation, Shen Zhihui, president of the Taiwan Association for Chinese Cultural Exchanges, Shi Huizhi, chief executive officer of the charity organization affiliated with Taiwan Fo Kwang Mountain Monastery, Chen Xingjia, president of the Shenzhen Henghui Child Welfare Foundation, delivered reports at the forum.

  Since the Cross-Strait Philanthropy Forum began in 2013, it has evolved into a platform for facilitating cooperation and exchanges between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan.
